Supernatural 11×03 ‘The Bad Seed’

I loved this episode. There hasn’t been an episode so far that I haven’t laughed as much as I did in ‘The Bad Seed’.

The funny lines weren’t overdone,  Rowena’s whole ‘Mega Coven’ was just spot on and Ruth was just amazing as Rowena and how insane she sounds to everyone else but herself.

The only thing that kinda annoyed me was that- i know the shows loves its fanbase- but it is literally just feeding off of it now. Okay, everyone wanted a sick Cas, everyone wanted Dean to wrap him in a blanket and make him better…and its exactly what we got.

Dean’s whole self-hate is also getting a bit tedious. It would have been okay if he just brushed off Cas’ offer of healing him. It feels like as a character he’s not getting anywhere with loving himself a bit more and letting go off the rotten things he’s done.

The girls who played Amara, even though the second one was for a fraction at the very end both did an amazing job at portraying her, her whole demeanour was perfectly cold. I like that she’s going to grow up into ‘The Darkness’ we saw at the start of the season, that she had to get a newborn baby and now has to eat souls to speedup her growth into her full adult human body.

Another thing that really annoyed me, is the show makes it WAY too obvious that it’s playing off the Cas/Dean relationship. It was just ridiculous in this episode. In one scene we have Dean chasing after Cas, which lands him down an empty and dark laneway…but of course, with nobody else around – a beautiful blonde struts straight by our main man, and of course Dean has to say a sleazy line to her, to which she tells him off… really?

That was just pathetic, will the producers and writers just stop. If the show doesn’t want Cas and Dean together then stop making it so obvious that you’re failing at keeping their relationship heterosexual…if you had confidence in the two characters being just ‘bros’ they wouldn’t have felt the need to put in that awkward and unnecessary scene with the woman, which was perfectly time at the moment that Dean is in a panic trying to get to Cas.

Supernatural 11×02 ‘Form and Void’

Rating ★★

Deja Vu

Is the only way I could describe this episode. How many times have we seen Sam say those words? How many times do they have to lie to one another? How many times do we have to hear Cas defend the Winchesters?

If they weren’t all in the same episode, I wouldn’t feel so bad, but because they all were, I just couldn’t help feel like the episode is a repetition of what we saw in previous seasons.

The addition of Amara is great! Last week I was totally baffled at what the baby meant, but I like that The Darkness is now the baby…BUT how come Dean just knew all this?….that was a slight cop out.

Another thing I just found a bit hard to swallow was the oil being the cure…Couldn’t it have been a bit harder than something the boys have already used soooo many times before? The Darkness is supposed to be the oldest known entity and something as simple as holy oil stops it’s powers on people?

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like the all-round acting is just lacking this season. I few times through this episode I cringed at certain actors and actresses. It just doesn’t feel the same.  It could have been better executed.

The one who has always come out-on-top and who didn’t fail was- of course – Crowley. He was just perfect, and I love the ending to this episode, I wonder what he’s going to do? It’s so intriguing!

Supernatural 11×01 ‘Out of the Darkness, Into The Fire’

Rating ★★★★

This season just didn’t have the same hype as previous seasons.

The episode picks up straight after the end of Season 10, which is really great, because you get a reminder of what happens from the opening and don’t have to think about how much time as passed [not like last season, when 6 weeks went by] and you felt like you were missing out when the missing time crept up in conversations.

Castiel’s storyline just didn’t make sense on-screen. It could have been better executed. I just don’t get why the ‘normal’ hunting family would start shooting a defenceless guy that they find in a shed, he didn’t do them any harm, just shoved the kid out of the way. It would have made sense if he attacked one of them, comes to his senses and then they shoot to defend themselves…now, that would have made sense.

Also, the Mark of Cain suddenly being on a baby makes zero sense right now, hopefully it’s cleared up in the next few episodes.

The Darkness and Dean aren’t connected because of the Mark anymore, because Dean doesn’t have it. Yea, he unleashed her, but there’s no connection. This too would make more sense if he still had the Mark, but he doesn’t.

But I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new monsters the Darkness is creating. They’re like a cross between a zombie and the Croatoan virus from all the way back in season 2 [it that made the townspeople kill one another]. I love the new twist of them dying after a few hours with it, that gives the guys a very short space of time to try and save them…and now, especially, it’s going to get super interested on how they find a cure….and quick!

Some conversations that happened between the boys was just so repetitive from previous seasons that I was thinking to myself ‘Not this again’. Like Sam complaining to Dean about killing human beings. How long have we been hearing this argument now? Since the beginning? Yep.

I’m not as excited as previous years yet, but I am really interested in seeing where this season goes and what happens. Also, what will happen between The Darkness and Dean??

Season 11 could get really dark and really interesting now, with this new connection between Dean and the new Big Bad.

Supernatural Season 11 Pre-thoughts

Supernatural is back this week!!

Meaning so are my reviews! I’m trying not to get too excited about this season. But it does look awfully good. It’s just that the show just falls short when it comes to being great. I presume it’s going to be the usual boys versus bad guys type of season with A LOT of fillers – as usual.

I am looking forward to it, just not as much as I was last year.

Last yearI had a countdown on my phone and kept googling every single day to see if anything new popped up about the season]. I haven’t done that this year, then that’s probably last season we had the whole Dean being a demon cliffhanger that this new ‘Darkness’ storyline just doesn’t have the same hype.

I’m also just really confused on what it all means that I can’t get excited about it, because I don’t know what’s coming.

Supernatural 10.20 ‘Angel Heart’

Rating: ★★★★

I was extremely excited about this episode,  because Castiel is just one of my favourite characters.

I loved everything about it. I just wish that the crazy Destiel shippers [Dean and Cas] would shut up for a second through. I do ship them, and its not my fault, it’s the way their whole relationship and how their scenes are shot that has me doing so. I don’t know if they will ever get together, and I’d be okay if they didn’t. But this episode did give Destiel a field day and tumblr exploded before it even finished with tiny nit-picks in the scenes.

I ADORED everything about the Dean and Clair interactions in this episode. They were totally adorable together- not romantically, but as in a father-daughter way.  They way they pocked fun at one another. That silly round of golf was what they both need- Dean needed that little freedom from the heaviness that was the mark- and which is quickly tearing him down- and Clair just needed to be a kid again after everything she’s been through.

Dean: If we stay cooped up in this motel room all night long, I’m gonna lose my mind.

Clair: Spoiler alert — you already have.

Dean gives Clair a gun,  without blinking or thinking twice, Dean hands her the weapon. It shows how much character development he has gone through, and how he sees Clair and the scene echoes what John did all those years ago with Dean and Sam.

As with Supernatural, this very chirpy [to Supernatural- standards] episode means that season ten is going to get extremely dark, and I don’t think I’m ready for what’s about to happen…

Supernatural 10.19 ‘The Werther Project’

I really really enjoyed this Sam-centric episode and I think this season has been leaving him out a lot. It all seems to focus on Dean and both his outer and inner struggled with the MOC, that Sammy is being more left to the side than usual.

I even started to dislike Sam, about going behind his brother’s back with the Book of the Damned, after all the other times they did the exact same thing. It led nowhere or landing them in more crap than they had already been in.

This episode made me love him all over again and I feel for him- terrified that he’s going to lose his big brother and he’s trying everything he can to save him. I love him for it, if it wasn’t for last season.

Okay so in the Book of the Damned he admitted that he’s been a complete b***terd about ‘not being brothers’ and turning their relationship into just a ‘proffessional’ one. He knows he can’t live without Dean and literally will end up dead if Dean dies. This did two things to me, it made me hate and love him at the same time. It’s just very hipocritical. I know Dean died and everything, but he went from ‘not being your brother’ to ‘if Dean dies, I die’.

He’s doing exactly what he did to Dean last season, going behind his back about something the other half was dead-set against.

I just wish he’d stop changing his mind every two seconds on their relationship and stop dragging Dean through more crap. I wish the writers would write him properly and stop running around in circles when it comes to Sammy.

But, taking away everything from last season and going back to Sam and Dean, who would die for one another. I loved this episode. If it wasn’t for last season I would love Sam more, but I just can’t.

One character I did miss a great deal was Benny, oh I love Benny. I felt a little bit let down to find it was just a vision. I was getting excited about the prospect of Dean ending back in purgatory and everything led us to believe it was going to happen. It wasn’t to be- it was all just a vision.

Overall season 10 has just been missing the mark with me. They could have done great things with the MOC and the brothers, but it just seems to feel all so disjointed and leading to nowhere. We all know the MOC is going to take hold of Dean again and go after Cas and Sam. Sam is going to turn darkish [again! wow, didn’t see that coming did we?*please note sarcasm*]

This season could have been great and every single week I’m hoping it gets better, but it doesn’t. The writers had a major storyline that could have opened up to a brilliantly dark and twisted season, but they destroyed it in the first handful of episodes. If it wasn’t on the CW it would have been awesome. [I’m just hoping the season ends with a bang and season 11 will be better].

Supernatural 10.16 ‘Paint It Black’

This week’s episode had everything to say it was a filler and nothing much to look forward to. But I was pleasantly surprised! I actually ended up really enjoying it.

The best part of it was Dean in the confession booth with the priest:

“There’s things…people, feelings. That I want to experience differently than I have before. Or maybe even for the first time.”

How is the fandom not supposed to take that as Dean talking about Cas, and talking about his feelings. Even the Father sees it as him talking about his feelings. Dean is not romantically linked to anyone else, and what happened to Ben and Lisa? I’m sure he loved her the way Dean means, she wasn’t just another fling. So it only points to Cas at this point. If the writer’s didn’t want to go down the Destiel route, they could have written this scene in a different way, the phrasing here is too well constructed. They knew what they were doing. At this stage- it’s Destiel- whether it’s supposed to be or not. The writer’s have been in this game FAR too long to not know how it’s going to come across to the viewers.  Personally, I wouldn’t care if Destiel even happened. But, I wish the writer’s would just make a clear-cut decision on whether it’s happening or not- they’ve had a billion and one chances to do so already.

His talk could also mean Sam- for Dean to stop seeing him as his responsibility.  But I don’t think Sam was the main focus for the speech, because they’re relationship has changed so much over the last year and Dean already sees Sam differently than before- after everything the two have been through, he has to.

It’s probably just me, but this episode felt disjointed from the rest of the series. I’m not saying that in a  bad way- it’s like a breath of fresh air.

When Dean is getting choked and a knife slowing getting closer to his abdomen. For a few heart wrenching seconds I thought he was going to be killed, and twisted gleeful hope came over me- that we were going to get back Demon Dean. If it had happened- it wasn’t something I was expecting.  We have the photos from the following episodes, showing that Dean is normal, but just a few seconds I thought we we’re going to get him. [but we are getting black eyes next week!]

Post Production and the FX theme have really pulled out all the stops in the last two episodes, they just seem to be on another level from the beginning of the series.

The character of Rowena has become one of my favourites in the show, but she’s nearing the end and I’ll be sad to see her go. Have a strong feeling it’s going to be next week she takes her bow, but we’ll see.

I just wish Sam gout more airtime, he just seems to be in the background an awful lot lately and all the focus is on Dean. Dean is my favourite, but it’s about the two of them and wish they’d stop making it look like Sam is just tagging along for the ride.
