I really really liked this movie. I didn’t see it in the cinema, because it didn’t capture me. It was more of a ‘oh look, Tom Cruise is in another action movie’.
It was also the title, for the life of me, I can never remember it, its more of ‘the action one with Tom Cruise’ which could be nearly all movies that Tom Cruise has been in, and he honestly needs to start picking different roles. It seems that he’s always the macho man who fights and has explosions and guns going off right-left-and-centre. So, by that standard, it was the same-old-same-old and his performance was just the usual, nothing the write home about.
But the story behind the movie I really really liked, and I didn’t think I would, I thought I’d sit down and give up half-way (I seem to be doing that a lot lately).
I love Emily Blunt in it, she was a perfect choice. There is nothing groundbreaking in the movie and I don’t know why I like it so much, but it was a decent movie that I didn’t bore me half-way through.
The sci-fi aspect of it, I thought was amazing and about the monsters and how Emily’s characters get’s knotted into it was great, and it was probably the reason why this movie would stand out among the crowd. But due to the terrible name and the lack of originality in the marketing campaign,(probably because they were trying to rope in people who wanted action and not scifi). I think are the reasons why it didn’t get the recognition.
The Edge of Tomorrow, also avoids romance, and from the get-go, I honestly thought there was going to be some and I was already mentally rolling my eyes about it. But thankfully- and I applaud it- the movie didn’t go down that road.
It’s a movie that surprised me, and I didn’t want to give it a chance, because there was nothing new about it, but it surprised me. Okay, I wont be watching it again in a very long time, or running out to buy it, but it was enjoyable and I thought it was cleverly thought out, and think it should be given a shot.
